KANCHEEPURAM: After escaping a bid on his life on Tuesday night, notorious bootlegger ‘Rokki’ Ramesh made a narrow escape after his rival gang struck for the second time in the week at the Government Hospital in Chengalpet, during the early hours of Saturday. It was on Tuesday night that Ramesh, also a murder accused in a double murder, escaped from death by taking shelter in Kezhil Kodungalur police station in Tiruvannamalai district, after being chased for nearly 30 km by a rival gang, which hacked him and hurled country-made bombs at him.The second daring murder attempt came just three days later. It is a fallout of vendetta between two gangs of bootleggers, one headed by Ramesh and the other by his arch rival Manoharan alias Mano, both operating in Villupuram and Puducherry.Sources said that a five-member gang wielding deadly weapon entered the GH at about 5 am on Saturday to eliminate Ramesh, who was undergoing treatment for injuries he sustained on Tuesday.
