CHENNAI: In a bid to make Tamil Nadu attain its leadership position, a new sector specific industrial policy would be introduced shortly, State Industries Minister C Shanmugavelan said on Thursday."A new industrial policy with specific sectors like auto-components and automobile (in mind) will be announced soon," Shanmugavelu said addressing a round-table conference organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.Stating that government would make all efforts in making Tamil Nadu attain leadership position, he claimed during AIADMK rule in 2001-06, the state was a power surplus one.He said government would also take steps in developing new sectors like nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.Admitting that many places in and around Chennai were growing at a rapid pace with the setting up of many companies, he said the new government would focus on developing the southern districts.On requests made by CII Southern Region chairman T T Ashok to address various issues like setting up of an industrial corridor between Chennai-Bangalore and Hyderabad, the Minister said all possible support would be extended.Earlier,talking to reporters Ashok said CII would set up a Centre Of Excellence on skills development in Chennai.The Centre would offer a range of services in the field of vocational training, curriculum development and faculty training, he said.
