BANGALORE: In an effort to train the city traffic cops in providing emergency aid to accident victims, city based hospitals organised Basic Life Support, a training programme. The event was inaugurated by the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Dr M A Saleem on Sunday. The programme aims to train 3,000 traffic police during weekends.During the inauguration, Saleem said that the traffic police are the first to reach an accident spot. “The important responsibility of a traffic policeman is to provide medical aid to the victim. It involves providing first aid treatment and shifting the patient to a hospital. But, the traffic policemen are not sufficiently trained to handle such situations. In this background, this programme is very helpful,” he said.About 100 policemen were trained in special skills required to handle emergency situations. Skills to perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through chest compressions, maintaining accident victims’ breathing by providing appropriate rescue breaths, relieving choking and other training was imparted to the cops. BGS Global Hospitals also plans to place free first aid kits in all city traffic police jeeps.
