KOZHIKODE: One man was killed and another injured, after being hit by the Parasuram Express at Koyilandi Railway Station, here on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Rahul, 18, of Kollam in Koyilandi. The victim was a temporary staff at a motor workshop in the town.According to Koyilandi police, the incident occurred at around 8 am. Parasuram Express, which arrived at the third platform of the station, knocked down the victims who were learnt to have been standing on the rail. Shimjith, 35, of 17th Mile in Koyilandi, who was injured in the incident, has been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.The agitated people and passengers blocked the train traffic along the route till noon alleging that the train, which usually stops at the second platform, came to the third platform without prior announcements. The protesters also alleged that the loco pilot was drunk and demanded his arrest. However, Koyilandi C I Jayan Dominic said, the police examination found that the driver was not drunk and he was permitted to continue operation. “Preliminary investigation reveals that the carelessness of the passengers has led to the incident,” he said. Koyilandi Police has registered a case in connection with the accident. The Railway officials maintained that the Parasuram Express was halted on the third railway line in order to give way to the Duronto Express heading towards Kochi.
