CHENNAI: The Postgraduate Department of Social Work of DG Vaishnav College organised a fair on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) philosophies and practises followed by various companies here on Friday.Held in the college campus, the fair focussed on the trends of CSR in the past, present and future. Corporates like Hyundai, Cognizant, Delphi TVS, Infosys, Ashok Leyland, Hindu Welfare, Salcomp, TATA Teleservices, Schwing Stetter and Orchid Chemicals participated. The stalls provided an insight into the kind of work that is done as part of CSR activities. These ranged from simple one-time visits to prolonged activities like adopting a village to take care of the water or educational needs.Prof R Sankaranarayanan of the Department said, “We wanted to show students and public about the kind of work being done. Some are proactive and some just donate. Others follow ethical practises in their method of business. Each corporate focuses on different things according to their policies.” He also said that CSR would become mandatory soon.Kerrnaz, a student, said, “Each of us does CSR activities with one particular corporate for a month, so we know how it works out. The fair helps us to compare the different methods.”A CSR seminar will be held at the college on Saturday (today) at 10am, where top executives from corporates will be speaking on the trends in CSR and where the industry might move to in the next few years.
