Agartala: Editor-proprietor of Tripura daily 'Dainik Ganadoot', Sushil Chowdhury, who was arrested in connection with the killing of three newspaper employees at his office was on Saturday remanded in judicial custody for three days.
Chowdhury was produced before the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Subhra Nath by police asking for five days police remand, but magistrate said the plea of the police would be considered after seeing the Case Diary on Monday. Chowdhury was arrested on Friday for his alleged involvement in the triple killing of the newspaper employees on May 19 here.
The driver of the editor's vehicle, Balaram Ghosh, manager Ranjit Choudhury and proof reader Sujit Bhattacharjee were killed inside 'Dainik Ganadoot' building on May 19.
Niyati Ghosh, wife of Balaram and her 13-year-old daughter witnessed the gruesome murder of Balaram Ghosh by two assailants who after stabbing him fled the scene on a motorbike, police said. The family lived in a small quarter on the back of the building.
Choudhury, who lives in the same compound, was present in a nearby room in the premises when the killing took place but had claimed he did not see anything. He was also grilled by police several times.
Police had arrested Niyati on June 1 for giving inconsistent statements. She was remanded in police custody for five days and on June 5 she was further sent to three days' police remand. She was remanded in 14-day jail custody on Friday.
