Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader KT Rama Rao demanded on Wednesday that a power emergency be declared in the state and measures taken on a war footing to mitigate the suffering of not only farmers but also others. He demanded immediate curbs on lighting in shopping malls and hoardings.

The power utilities would thus be able to save at least 10 million units. It was high time the state fought with the Centre to secure unallocated power produced by NTPC for Andhra Pradesh.

Another TRS leader and MLA T Harish Rao demanded that the state government build pressure on the Centre to get additional 500 MW of power from the national grid where more than 15 per cent of unallocated power was available.

Harish Rao said it was time the state government reviewed the power allocation to distribution companies in the state. The government made the allocation considering the demand prevailing 10 years ago.

Now that the situation has changed, it was time for a review, he said.

The TRS MLA also suggested construction of pending power projects and getting additional gas allocation to the state from Centre for the Nedunuru and Shankarpally power projects.

What's your reaction?
