HYDERABAD: Convinced that the Congress high command will not take any decision in favour of statehood to Telangana in the near future, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti is planning to utilise the monsoon session of Parliament to increase the heat on the ruling party and derive electoral benefit.Though the TRS is not sure whether the Congress will yield to the pressure, a delay in announcement of a decision in favour of Telangana will help the TRS consolidate people and thus emerge as a formidable force at the time of the 2014 general election. The TRS, which has been closely watching the developments at the Centre, has more or less come to the conclusion that the Congress decided to dodge the issue. “If the Centre is keen on delivering Telangana, it will have opened a line of communication with us. It has done in the past before taking crucial decisions. The fact that it has not yet indicates that the Congress is still in two minds,” a TRS leader said. TRS sources recall the Congress holding talks with K Chandrasekhara Rao when he went on fast in 2009 before Union home minister P Chidambaram making the “historic” announcement on December 9 that year. It was rumoured then that even before the Centre made an announcement on constitution of the Justice BN Srikrishna panel to go into the issue of bifurcation of the state, it had consulted the TRS.As there are no such indications now, the TRS believes it will take time before taking a decision. To make the most of the opportunity the delay offers them, the TRS wants to boycott the monsoon session of Parliament next month. The strategy of the TRS appears to be to fight of Telangana and in the process gain electoral strength. This time around, it is focussing on Delhi.
