Ahmedabad: At least 20 people, belonging to a certain community, were injured in group clashes over a trivial issue of tying buffaloes in the middle of road in Mehsana district's Manknaj village.
One of the 20 people received serious head injuries, Santhal police sub-inspector R B Bhatol told PTI.
The injured have been admitted to Mehsana Civil Hospital, the police said. The clashes which erupted due to an argument over tying buffaloes in the middle of the road, ended up in around 20 people from two groups resorting to stone-pelting.
Both the groups resorted to stone-pelting at each other for quite a long time before attacking each other with heavy instruments, the police said.
FIRs have been registered by both the groups against each other, the police said. Twenty-three people from both the groups have been named in the FIR and booked under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence in prosecution of common object), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), as well as Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act.
The situation is now under control, after the police launched combing operations, Bhatol said. No arrests have been made yet, as those named in the FIR are injured, but they will be nabbed as soon as they are released from hospital, the police said.
