The police on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with a case of sexually exploiting a nine-year-old girl by several persons at Vypeen. The arrested are Sindhu, 42, mother of the victim girl, and Rocky, 55, both hailing from Vypeen.
According to the police, mother of the girl sold her to several persons for money. She is also suspected to have been engaged in flesh trade.
The incident came to light after the Child Welfare Committee along with police and local people rescued the girl and admitted her to the Government Girls Home at Kakkanad last month.
The girl submitted to the officials there that she was molested by several persons after sold to them by her mother herself. On the basis of this police have registered a case.
After the case was registered Sindhu went absconding. It was on Thursday that she was arrested from a house near Vypeen. During interrogation she revealed the role of Rocky.
The two were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate on Thursday and remanded in judicial custody. The police are looking for other persons named by the girl.
