CHENNAI: A day after five persons, including four students, were detained for inquiry following suspicion of links with a terror outfit, the Delhi police arrested two persons and flew them to Delhi for further investigations on Monday. Intelligence sources said preliminary investigations confirmed that the arrested persons, alleged to be relatives, were terrorists belonging to terror outfit Indian Mujahidheen and that they were allegedly planning attacks in Bangalore while here in Chennai. However, Chennai police denied that they had terror outfit links and had planned attacks.According to the Delhi police, Irshad (50), a resident of Delhi, had been arrested in a case involving counterfeit currency, forged passports and seizure of weapons. Along with him, Abdul Rahman (19), a student, was held for providing shelter to Irshad. A release said that the Chennai city police assisted in tracing and securing both the persons on a request from Delhi police. The release also said that Irshad had come to Chennai a few days ago while Abdul, a native of Bihar, was studying in an engineering college. Police sources said Irshad was Abdul’s uncle and that the 19-year-old went absconding while police detained Irshad and other students. They had traced Abdul Rahman by asking Irshad to call him, sources added.Police said Abdul was studying in a private university in Selaiyur and stayed in Rajeshwari Nagar, close to his college. The release further said no weapons or explosives were found in the possession of the arrested persons or in their place of stay and that preliminary investigation did not reveal any designs in Tamil Nadu on the part of the arrested persons.Police sources said another man named Asif had allegedly come to Chennai along with Irshad from Delhi but escaped from the clutches of the police as he was out in the city when they detained the accused. The duo was flown to Delhi in an afternoon flight by officials of the Intelligence Bureau and Delhi police, even as reports of them having been remanded to custody here did the rounds.
