The two elderly women, along with Selvi (35), Valliyamma (34) and Sampath Kumar (40) of the same village, were walking along the Tirupattur-Salem Road towards Athi Sakthi Nagar to attend the final rites of one of their relatives. An over-speeding ambassador driven by M Baskaran, of Angammal Colony in Salem, knocked them down from behind around 7 am.
