PARADIP: Talks between the United Action Committee (UAC) a pro Posco outfit and the district administration failed to yield any result on Thursday. The outfit members refused to participate in the meeting in the absence of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central) stating that their previous meetings with the district collector had not been fruitful. The Jagatsinghpur district administration had invited members of UAC, who are opposing work for the boundary wall and rehabilitation colony in Nuagaon and Gadakujang areas, for talks on Thursday over the outfit's six demands.
UAC secretary Nirvaya Samantray said many UAC members boycotted the meeting and they did not want discussions of any kind with the District Collector
N C Jena as nothing tangible came out of the meetings held in the past with
him.
The outfit's demands include a raise in the compensation for betel vine workers, provision of job to each of the 3,000 projectaffected families of Dhinkia, Nuagaon and Gadakujang panchayats, an increase in the price of agricultural and homestead land, contract work to the locals during construction and compensation to the beneficiaries who had demolished their betel vines after the 2008 survey.Similarly, the villagers under the banner of Bhitamati Surkhya Manch staged a dharna at Nuagaon to prevent entry of administrative officials for felling trees in the area.
