HYDERABAD: Jairam Reddy, a native of Kadapa and the main accused in a double murder case in Proddatur, got himself admitted to NIMS on September 21 last year in the cardiology department. It is said that the hospital staff were not aware that he was a prisoner since the police did not accompany him at the time of his admission. Reddy was admitted like any other normal patient. Sources say that soon after he was arrested by the Kadapa police, he was shifted to two hospitals in Proddatur and later to a multispecialty hospital in Kadapa before he got himself admitted at NIMS. He stayed at NIMS till November last year and when he got the bail went back to his native Kadapa. The wives of the two persons whom Reddy was accused of killing filed a petition in the High Court against health secretary and the home department after Reddy got bail. The court had ordered the health secretary to submit a report on the incident.NIMS authorities came to know that Reddy was accused in a murder case only in October. PV Ramesh, the then health secretary, who was also the then director of NIMS, ordered his discharge from the hospital. But despite the orders, Jairam Reddy managed to stay on in room No 105 of the Millennium Block for 43days.Sources said that throughout his stay, he was only taking medicines and did not really require hospital stay.Former director of NIMS Dr Mahapatra also received notices from the Lokayukta twice regarding the issue and since he did not respond summons were issued to him. Mahapatra has served charge memos to the three errant doctors when the issue came to light. He constituted a threemember committee to probe the issue.'After we received the report from NIMS, we directed that the three doctors be suspended. The threemember committee had stated in the report that the doctors were found violating the rules,' G Sudhir, special chief secretary, medical and health department, said.
