New Delhi: The leaders of ruling UPA allies and Left parties will meet at the Prime Minister's residence to discuss the recent Supreme Court stay on 27 per cent OBC quota in educational institutions on Friday evening.
The crucial meeting will be attended by top leaders of UPA parties and the Left, sources said.
On Thursday, the Prime Minister spoke of the need for a broad-based national consensus to decide on the nature of reservation in view of the apex order.
Earlier, Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh had said that the Government would take all "constitutional and legal measures" to vacate the stay.
The Minister also held a series of meetings with legal experts including Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium.
Though there was no official word on the discussions, sources said the government was "anxious" for a solution. "Consultations are on. The Government is looking at various matters and is anxious for a solution," a source was quoted by PTI.
On March 29, the court had questioned the basis of the norms for fixing the OBC category. The court had also remarked that caste based reservations were dividing the nation.
