SABARIMALA: The Travancore Devaswom Board Staff Organisation has said that vested interests were trying to sabotage the Sabarimala pilgrimage by raking up issues during the Mandalam-Makaravilaku season. Talking to newsmen at Sannidhanam on Monday, organisation president K R Mohanlal, general secretary K B Balachandran and vice-president R Madhusudhanan Nair said that lakhs of pilgrims were undergoing severe hardships in the name of inter-state and other political issues. Mohanlal said that the State and Central Governments should initiate measures to ensure safety and security of Sabarimala pilgrims. He said in Tamil Nadu, sinister and vicious campaign was being launched by political leaders on the law and order situation in Kerala to prevent the pilgrims from coming to the hill shrine for darsan of Lord Ayyappa. TDB URGED TO TERMINATE TEMPORARY HANDS: Mohanlal said that TDB should terminate from service the 120 temporary staff members who work at various establishments under the devaswom for a long period. He said the organisation would launch agitation, including hunger strike, till the TDB terminates them from service. The TDB should appoint the dependents of those employees who passed away during their service tenure. In addition, the employees working in lower levels under the Devaswom could be deployed in the vacancies, he said.
