A video footage of a man reportedly slapping blindfolded Fr Tom Uzhunnalil - who was reportedly abducted by ISIS on March 4 - has gone viral on social networking site Facebook.
It was uploaded from a Twitter account belonging to Taji Non and also carried a message: "I got a vid on WhatsApp for Fr Tom Uzhunnalil under torture."
In the video, the priest, who has been blindfolded, is shown being slapped by an unidentified person. The video footage bears an uncanny resemblance to the abducted priest. However, it is yet to be officially confirmed that the man in the video footage is actually Fr Tom Uzhunnalil from Kerala.
The priest's family had received a picture of blindfolded Tom two weeks ago. Relatives claim the recent picture and torture video appear to be real.
Reacting over the video footage, Kerala MP Anto Antony said, "I will speak to External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj and request her to intervene for his immediate release."
Tom is believed to have been taken from a retirement home in Yemen during an attack by Islamic extremists on 4 March.
The group shot 16 people - including four nuns - during the incident at the home in Aden, which is run by Kolkata based Missionaries of Charity.
