Kochi: Ilaya Dalapathy, that is how he is known. Vijay, who was in the city on Saturday for the launch of the trailer of his coming movie Velayudham, once again proved that he is one of the most popular Tamil actors with a huge fan base in Kerala.
A terrific welcome was given to the actor by his ecstatic fans. And while interacting with the media later, Vijay did not hide his desire to act in a Malayalam movie. "I really love Malayalam films for the realistic way of story telling. And I am an admirer of both Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal. I am not sure whether they will call me for doing a film together with them. But, if such an opportunity comes, I will not hesitate to act in a Malayalam cinema," Vijay said.
The actor said that Kerala was very special for him. "I have been in Thiruvananthapuram but it is for the first time that I am visiting Kochi. The way I was received here at the theatre for the trailer launch was exactly the way I am received in the theatres in Tamil Nadu. And I must say that right from my first film, I have received tremendous support from the audience here. It's a great moment. I am thankful to the Malayalis for their support, love and affection that they are bestowing on me," he added.
After Velayudham, Vijay’s next movie will be Nanban by director Shankar. The remake of one of the all-time Bollywood hits - 3 Idiots - the movie will hit the screens on Pongal. "Shankar had worked as an associate director under my father for several years. So I knew him from that time itself. It was a great moment for me to act in his film. Likewise, my co-actors in the movie, Jeeva and Sreekanth, are also my good friends. We enjoyed the moments we worked together," he added.
Regarding his upcoming projects, Vijay said that discussions are going on. Two movies are in the pipeline - Murugadoss’ ‘Maalai Neram Mazhathuli’ and Goutham Menon’s Yohan Adhyayam Ondru. "Discussions are going on and we are yet to finalise it. An official announcement is expected to be made by next week," the actor added.
About Velayudham, Vijay said that it was his first movie with director Jayam Raja. He also made it clear that he is not playing the role of a super hero in Velayudham. "I do not believe in boasting about my film prior to its release. Makkal thaan paarthu sollanam (It’s the people to decide whether it is good or not)," Vijay added.
