THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The gruesome murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan has gifted CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan with a new opportunity to strike at his bete noire Pinarayi Vijayan and muster up the resources to regroup his old comrades and supporters outside the party. His plain-speaking and open reaction to Pinarayi Vijayan’s comments that Chandrasekharan was a traitor and renegade have helped him regain the lost ground among the comrades outside the CPM as well as the apolitical masses. But the fact remains that nothing will come out of his ‘’lip service’’ as long as he remains in the party which he had been nurturing for the last seven decades. He may have rekindled the enthusiasm of the expelled CPM workers who later have turned out to be the members of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of the late T P Chandrasekharan and several small Left groups.Party insiders believe that VS will not leave the party and lead a new communist party. While outsiders like former TRIDA chairman and former CPM district secretariat member S Suseelan believes that it was not impractical for VS to take the call for leading a new communist party, writer and noted political observer like N M Pierson is of the view that VS lacks the will to act.“Thousands of former CPM workers and people with broad Left leanings are longing for a new communist party.Though we may have communist parties in the country, they are all namesake communists” says Suseelan.Suseelan, who is also facing threats from some of the CPM leaders in the capital, said that the time had come for VS to act as there was no real Left party left in the state.‘’Being a true communist, it is the historic duty of VS to lead the formation of a new communist party. It may be a broad formation of several small, local-level organisations like the one led by Chandrasekharan. But there will be thousands of people willing to join such a party to fight the fascist tendencies of the CPM” he said. But Pierson is of the view that VS would continue to remain within the CPM as he would not get any support from his erstwhile followers in the party.“Even the district-level leaders who had been loyal to him till recently have left his fold and they would not make any sacrifice to go with VS again” he said. However, Pierson said that the plainspeaking by VS and his open stand that Chandrasekharan was a true communist had in fact helped the CPM.‘’The anti-CPM feeling generated in the aftermath of the murder of Chandrasekharan has now been directed towards Pinarayi Vijayan and P Jayarajan.Achuthanandan’s intervention has helped the party in this regard” he said PINARAYI SLAMS THIRUVANCHOORKANNUR: The statement made by Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan came in for sharp criticism by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday.Pointing out that the Home Minister had contradicted the observation of DGP Jacob Punnoose that the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan at Onchiyam wasn’t a political murder, Pinarayi Vijayan asked the Home Minister to explain what evidence he had with him to take a stand opposed to the DGP’s.
