In an exclusive interaction with CNN-IBN, arrested underworld don Chhota Rajan has confirmed that he has not surrendered and was taken into custody after landing in Bali from Australia. Rajan added that he wants to return to India and is unhappy with his detention in Bali. He also denied reports that he was en route to Zimbabwe.
Earlier on Wednesday, Rajan had claimed that he is not afraid of anyone. While entering a police lock up in Bali, Rajan said, "I am not afraid of anyone."
Meanwhile, reports suggest that his extradition to India may not be easy as the Indonesian court may not allow it. India can either extradite Rajan or deport him if extradition proves to be difficult.
According to sources, a CBI team is all set to go to Bali over the weekend.
Bali Police has also said that Rajan has been cooperating with them. Chhota Rajan was arrested in a coordinated effort between the Indian authorities, Australian and Indonesian Police and the Interpol.
Sources also revealed that Rajan may have struck a deal with intelligence agencies for arrest. According to the sources, he was used by intelligence agencies to keep a close tab on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
After his fallout with Dawood, it is widely believed that Rajan sold his loyalty to the intelligence agencies.
In 2000, Dawood's henchmen carried out an attack on Rajan which he survived but his health began to deteriorate. He has been undergoing dialysis since 2010. Dawood's men reportedly made another attempt on Rajan's life earlier in 2015 in New south wales.
In his last conversation with a close associate, Rajan expressed his apprehension about staying in Australia.
The arrest was made on a tip off from Australian police that 55-year-old Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Mohan Kumar alias Chhota Rajan has flown from Sydney to Indonesia's popular tourist destination Bali, where he was arrested on Sunday.
