Kolkata: The West Bengal government will move the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court order asking the CBI to take over the Netai massacre inquiry from the CID, secretariat sources said.
"It has been decided to move the Supreme Court. The High Court order is being studied to find the grounds on which the Supreme Court can be moved," they said.
The government institued a CID inquiry into the January 7 firing at Netai village in which nine people were killed but was ordered by the High Court on February 18 to hand over the investigation to the CBI.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice JN Patel and Justice Ashim Kumar Roy also directed the CID to hand over all documents relating to the investigation, as well as the two accused in custody, to the CBI.
The bench, which will monitor the investigation, directed the CBI to furnish a progress report after 15 days from the day of the order when the matter would come for hearing again.
