Meerut: A resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Rehana Begum, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the local police, charging her father-in-law and two of his friends with rape.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Meerut, K Ejilearassane, said the complaint has been registered and an enquiry is in progress.
"A lady named Rehana filed an FIR with us, and we have also registered the same. According to the FIR, she has been raped by her father-in-law. We will start an enquiry now after which only we will know exactly what the case is," said Ejilearassane.
Rehana, in her mid-twenties and married for the past ten years, is the mother of three children. She has been the sole bread earner of her family since her husband has been staying in Saudi Arabia for the past six years.
Her husband's attitude towards his wife and children and repeated misdemeanours of her father-in-law forced Rehana to move back to her parental home.
"I had gone to the jungle with my father. He had gone in search of wood while I sat down to cut the wood. Three people, riding a motor-cycle, came from behind and dragged me to a secluded area. There, they raped me. I recognised two of them, one of whom was my father-in-law. I pleaded with them to stop molesting me but to no avail," said Rehana.
Rehana's father-in-law, Aniz, has denied the rape charge, and says that his daughter-in-law is trying to trap him into giving away some of his property to her.
"I do not know anything. I had gone to the masjid for prayers. She is charging me with wrong allegations. I never did anything like this," said Aniz.
