Six persons including three women, surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate Court-V here on Monday in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old woman. The court sentenced them to judicial custody for 15 days and directed the police to lodge them in the central prisons at Thorapadi near Vellore.
Rakhini and Vinod Kumar (31) of Chinnakanavai Village near Kamalapuram got married two-and-half years ago and had a boy. Rakhini was found hanging at her house on July 23.
The deceased’s father Saravanan, suspecting foul play in Rakhini’s death, lodged a complaint with the Pernambut police against his son-in-law Vinod Kumar and his family members alleging that they had harassed and murdered her.
Following the complaint, police registered a case against Vinod Kumar and six of his relatives under Section 302 (murder) and 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) read with Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act. While the police arrested Vinod Kumar on July 24, the six other accused in the case were absconding, police said.
On Monday, Vinod Kumar’s brother Krishnamurthy (45), Krishnamurthy’s wife Bharathi (40) and their relatives Alamelu (60), Deva alias Pattu (25), Deiva Kumar (50) and Rajeswari (65) surrendered before the JM Court- V in connection with Rakhini’s murder. The judge sent them to judicial custody, police said.
