ICC World Cup 2023: Virat Kohli Second, Rohit Sharma Fourth in Golden Bat Race as India Rout South Africa

Team India breezed past South Africa in a top-of-the-table group stage clash in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

Indian opted to bat first as Rohit Sharma and Co. managed to put on a score of 326 runs for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs before bundling out the Protea batting lineup for a paltry score of 83 runs.

Golden Bat:

South African opener Quinton de Kock tops the run-getters rankings despite his early dismissal against the men in blue, after scoring just 5 runs on Sunday, with a cumulative total of 550 runs to his name at the ICC showpiece event.

Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who brought up his 49th ODI century, levelling the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s ton record in the 50-over format, with an unbeaten 101 runs off 121 deliveries climbed to second in the race for the golden bat with 543 runs under his belt in the campaign.

New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who has been an absolute revelation in the ICC event, stands third on the list with 523 runs in all in the tournament.

Indian skipper Rohit comes in at fourth position with 442 runs, thanks to his blistering 40 runs knock off just 24 deliveries against the Proteas at the Eden Gardens.

Australian opener David Warner, who has amassed 428 runs in the ongoing blue ribbon event polishes off the top five of the top run scorers table.

Golden Ball:

Australian spinner Adam Zampa tops the wicket-takers standings with 19 wickets in the tournament, followed by Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madhushanka, who has scalped 18 wickets to date at the ICC event.

South African seamer Marco Jansen, who removed KL Rahul on Sunday, took his wicket tally to 17 to stand third on the list.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who produced another blinder of a spell, comes in at number four on the list with 16 dismissals to his name.

Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi completes the top five of the wicket-getters list having picked up 16 wickets as well at the ODI spectacle in India.
