Mumbai: BCCI treasurer Ravi Sawant on Wednesday said that Board President N Srinivasan is likely to attend the Working Committee meeting in Kolkata on September 1.
“I think he (Srinivasan) should be attending. If he is attending, he will chair (the meeting),” Sawant told reporters on the sidelines of a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) function to felicitate umpires.
The previous meeting of the Working Committee, scheduled to be held soon after that of the IPL Governing Council’s on August 2, had to be adjourned as the word “emergent” was not mentioned in the circular sent to its members to indicate it was called at short notice.
With the Supreme Court hearing on BCCI’s appeal against the Bombay High Court verdict which declared the Board’s IPL probe panel “illegal and unconstitutional” coming up on August 29, its outcome is expected to be deliberated by the Working Committee.
The date and venue of the AGM, also scheduled next month, would be decided at the Working Committee sitting in Kolkata.
N Srinivasan had stepped aside as BCCI President till the IPL probe committee completed its job but had gone to Delhi to chair the adjourned Working Committee meeting after having recused himself from IPL GC’s sitting held on the same day.
But the meeting was adjourned and Jagmohan Dalmiya continued to function as the interim chief.
Savant is expected to present the Board’s balance sheet at the Kolkata meeting.
“I will present accounts for the first time before the working committee. It’s going on,” he said.
Asked if the Board president would finalise the accounts before the AGM, Savant said, “Working committee handles the account and not the president. President, of course, is part of committee but working committee looks after the accounts.”
Sawant, who is also the MCA president, said the event to felicitate umpires happened after four years and hoped that from next year, the umpires’ award would be held with the association’s main function.
