BTS leader RM’s documentary Right People, Wrong Person, based on his album of the same name, premiered at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). This significant event marked the first K-pop documentary featured in the Open Cinema category at BIFF. Although RM could not attend due to his military service, the film has received positive feedback from viewers. Several creative team members, including San Yawn, Im Subin, Jang Sehoon, JNKYRD and director Lee Seok-jun, were present at the event.
Before the screening, the director emphasised that the documentary delves into RM’s personal journey. As per Deadline, Lee Seok-jun said, “I remember when I first met RM, he shared with me a Korean phrase which translates to ‘every meeting must part, and every parting leads to another meeting.’ RM was saying that every encounter leads to a farewell but every farewell also leads to new encounters.”
“This documentary captures the journey of RM as he worked on the album and honestly portrays his personal emotions and doubts. This film was made in nine months, which can be a short time but actually it took me a long time, as it delves into RM’s deep inner self. At the same time, it reflects the emotions that many people may have experienced at least once in their lives,” Lee Seok-jun added.
Ahead of the Right People, Wrong Person’s premiere, RM shared a message for ARMYs on Weverse explaining that he made the documentary with the uncertainty about its release. While filming, the rapper said he spent nearly a year with director Lee Seok-jun, as if they were living together. RM also mentioned that he is writing a journal every day and focusing on his well-being. Finally, RM shared his excitement about reconnecting with fans once he completes his military training.

According to BIFF, “This documentary chronicles the making of BTS leader RM’s second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person. It tells the story of the final chapter of his twenties as he prepares for mandatory military service, and offers a deeply personal glimpse into the life of Kim Nam-joon. It is a chronicle of youth, spanning from February 8, 2023, to November 10, 2023, with each section dated like a journal entry, documenting the progress of Team RM’s project. The film follows him as he travels to places where no one recognizes him and the photographer captures him just as he is.”
RM’s Right People, Wrong Place was screened at the Busan Cinema Center’s BIFF theater and is scheduled to be released worldwide later this year.
