SM Entertainment Says It Is 'Difficult To Comment' On NCT Member Taeil's Alleged Sexual Assault Case
While the singer is yet to comment directly on it, SM Entertainment has issued a brief statement regarding the ongoing investigation.

While it has been quite a while since NCT’s Taeil withdrew from the group amid sex crime accusations, the latest reports suggest that he was investigated a week ago on alleged charges of quasi-rape of an intoxicated woman with two other men. According to a report by The Chosun IIbo, Taeil was questioned by the Seoul Bangbae Police Station. However, the case was transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on the 12th of last month.

As of now, the singer has not been summoned by the police for further questioning. It was revealed that Taeil was sued in June for allegedly sexually assaulting the woman with two other acquaintances. He was summoned for interrogation on August 28, which revealed that none of the acquaintances involved were public figures.

While the singer is yet to comment directly on it, SM Entertainment has issued a brief statement regarding the ongoing investigation. “It is difficult to comment as the matter is currently under investigation,” it said. Before this, the company issued another statement, acknowledging the charges back in August. “We have recently learned that Taeil has been charged with a criminal case related to sexual offences. As we looked into the matter, we realised the seriousness of the case and decided that he could no longer continue to be a part of the team, and he has decided to leave the team. Taeil is cooperating fully with the police investigation, and we will provide further comment as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for any offence our artist may have caused,” it said.

Quasi-rape is usually referred to as sexual assault committed on an intoxicated person who is incapable of resisting, either by someone armed with a weapon or by two or more people acting together. If convicted in the case, Taeil could face at least seven years of imprisonment or even life in prison. In the meantime, the developments have left NCT and other Korean fans in shock.

Many took to social media platforms to express frustration over his actions. Some even called out SM Entertainment, questioning why he remains employed with the agency even after leaving the group.
