Muslims around the world are preparing for Ramadan, also known as Ramzan. Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon sighting, and all adult Muslims are required to fast during this time unless they are sick, travelling, on their menstrual cycle, pregnant, diabetic, or elderly.
After the sighting of moon in Saudi Arabia on March 10, Ramadan in India will begin on March 12. The last day of it is April 9. The holy month of Ramadan usually occurs 10 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar each year because the Islamic calendar typically follows the ebb and flow of the moon.
Since the start of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide will fast during the day and refrain from eating and drinking even water. For Muslims, fasting is more than simply abstaining from food and drink; it is a spiritual cleansing. It’s a time for introspection, a concentrated effort at patience and prayer, a mental stillness to quell the body’s desires and nourish the soul.

- Foster an inclusive cultureApart from planning events or activities that promote diversity and inclusivity, encourage staff members to become knowledgeable about and appreciative of various cultures and religions.
- Offer flexible working hoursEmployers could provide flexible working hours during Ramadan, allowing Muslim employees to attend prayers or break their fast at the appropriate time.
- Recognise and value the occasionEmployers can show their support by recognising the importance of Ramadan and sending a message of gratitude to their Muslim employees for their contributions.
- Plan a delicious Iftar togetherIt is a great idea to ask your employees for a convenient date and treat them to a nice meal while adhering to social and community guidelines. Iftar is a time for Muslims to replenish, and nothing beats a good meal after a long day of discipline.
