Setting foot in Noida’s Sector 63 is like entering a mini food zone where several restaurants are lined up to offer varied national and international cuisines to woo a large swathe of their clientele. And in the heart of this bustling corporate hub sits this quiet and cosy restaurant.
Tucked away in the first floor, Spize Nothing Like That Bar Be Que comes with the same concept as that of Barbeque Nation. And with an advantage that none of the outlets of the famous Barbeque Nation is present in close proximity, Spize... has been successful at building a loyal clientele.
As I pulled up an armchair in the restaurant I couldn't help but overhear a group of people talking about the need for a metro station in the vicinity. So just in case you are planning to commute by metro to visit the restaurant know that it is way too far from the nearest station. Therefore, make sure you travel by your own car to avoid any inconvenience.
Decor: Talking about the décor, this buffet-themed restaurant has a surprisingly elegant room. Yes, there is a decent-looking bar, stylish and comfy chairs, and a charcoal grill on each table to serve the starters. Since the restaurant caters to families, it can and should build and capitalize on a homely atmosphere by using decor that focuses on the familiarity.
Like several other restaurants, Spize… has also embraced the open kitchen trend all to ensure their guests don’t feel surprised when the food magically appears out from behind shut doors. With chefs dishing out delectable food items within views of diners, it is nothing short of an impressive live performance as steam, flames, and clanking in the kitchen area keep the guests busy.
Food: While I eagerly waited for my meal, the echo, the aroma and the sight of cooking helped me work up the much-needed appetite. Having traveled to the restaurants in the blazing sun, Virgin Mojito, with its refreshing mixture of citrus, mint and sugar, did well in cutting through the heat. The beverage (minus the alcohol) not only looked visually appealing but also tasted perfect.
From a huge list of starters that were offered to us, we liked Salsa Potato. Even though it looked a regular tikki that we have at a nearby eating joint, its taste was a lot better. Crisp, flavorful and spicy, this kicked off our culinary experience on a positive note. Next came the delightful Anari Paneer Tikka. Those who’ve only used pomegranate in juices and chaats have an option to give it a nee lease of life. Interestingly, the chefs didn’t garnish the tikka with pomegranate seeds. As the chef told us, they had to grind the seeds and use it while cooking the dish for distinct taste. But we were expecting it to be extra tangy in taste. Seniman Pineapple, one of my absolute favorite starter, made me reminisce about how my mother prepares. Dipped in honey and served hot and fresh, the crunchy Seniman Pineapple was both super simple and delicious. Options for non-vegetarians aren’t uninteresting. With Bavari Mutton Seekh, Murg Nijami Tikka and Chilly Prawns on offer, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Dal Makhni was very good with a thick and spicy gravy. Even though Kadhai Paneer had the typical restaurant-type gravy, it managed to retain the aroma of varied spices.
Sine I had heard a lot about Birbal Ki Handi offered here, I helped myself to it. Without a doubt, it was very nice. I enjoyed Bangon Mirchi Ka Salan too. Non-vegetarian main course includes Kashmiri Mutton Curry, Chicken Corma, Fish with Mushroom Garlic Sauce. While we enjoyed almost all food items that were whipped up for us, we felt the dessert menu could do well with a face-lift. With the predictable Moong Dal Halwa, Kesari Kheer, Gulab Jamun, Assorted pastry, Ghiye Ka Halwa as key attractions, the dessert section looked quite boring.
Service: The staff was prompt, friendly, available and not intrusive.
Our Opinion: An exceptional buffet restaurant that offers economic and filling meals.
