A video about Indore based tourist and his maiden visit to Niagara Falls emerged as the biggest internet sensation recently. The non-descript, simple, bespectacled businessman from Indore made the most of his visit to world’s largest waterfalls.
Excitement Of An Indian Tourist is Very Epic! He Killed It By His Amazing Commentary of Niagara Falls!#MustWatch #NiagaraFalls #Canada #ViralGooglyPosted by Viral Googly on Sunday, February 14, 2016
The guy in the video is Rajiv Nema-a San Jose based guy from USA, whose Twitter account reveals that he is not an Indore based businessman but a BigData and SAP expert with a sharp flare in comedy. Popular as Rajiv Nema Indori, he has uploaded several funny videos which highlight the peculiarity and uniqueness of Indore, a cosmopolitan city of Madhya Pradesh. Keeping his quintessential Indori touch intact in the video, Rajiv gives a simplistic account of how it feels to be at the Niagara Falls.
The casually shot video, which was casually uploaded on YouTube, has gone viral on the social media, with everyone applauding at this simple travellers amazing and matter of fact narration. Rajiv captures the excitement oozed out by average Indian travellers, considered as noisy travellers all over the world. Unable to control their excitement, the tourist describes the pleasure of seeing the horse shoe shaped waterfall is he describes as a pure ‘anand’ (joy).
The video is the biggest hit on Face book earning more than 600k views and 10k shares. The reason for the popularity of the video is the simplicity with which the Indori (as he proudly refers himself) has narrated every aspect of travelling to Niagara Falls.
Rajiv highlights how Indians are chatterbox and are not good at controlling their excitement especially when they travel to exotic destinations. He reveals everything related to the waterfalls, the best hotel to stay, the cost of food, relevance of main tourist attractions such as maid of the mist, Rainbow Bridge, difference between yellow and blue raincoat- that demarcates the American and Canadian tourists.
Though the video is about Indian tourists visit to Niagara Falls, but one ends up taking away more information about Indore than Niagara:
Indori Gamcha/Ghanda: Always spot Indori people by their pink coloured gamcha or gandha. According to Rajiv Nema, the gandha has its own swag especially when worn with a Tommy Hilfiger tee. He feels it can be used for wiping his face and glasses that gets drenched while going close to the waterfall.
Raincoat is referred as Barsati: The highlight of the Niagara Falls is the blue and yellow raincoat, which is given to each visitor. Most tourists carry back these raincoats as a souvenir. Rajiv makes it simple by calling it a barsati.
Indoris cannot live without their snack: Indore is well known for its Indori sev, namkeen, fafda and daliya. A proud Indori can swear by his plate full of poha, thus, it is no surprise that Rajiv Nema too carries a packet of namkeen which he calls ‘satvik’ (pure) as it consists of murra and namkeen. This saves him $15-$20 that his wife would spend on buying lunch.
Indorikaran of dialect is distinct: Rajiv’s dialect confirms that one can spot a person from the way he speaks. Don’t confuse him with Soorma Bhopali of Sholay as Indories speak Hindi differently.
A lesson in travel vlogging: Travel vlogging is in vogue but Indori video has confirmed that it doesn’t necessarily have to be exotic. There is no need to use flowery language or high-powered camera, as one can make a travel vlogg by communicating in a lucid local lingo and describe things in a matter of fact fashion.
