Brace yourselves as new emotions make their way into Riley’s head as she turns 13, a teenager in the upcoming sequel Inside Out 2. The film is set to follow the events of the Academy Award-winning Inside Out. Amy Poehler, the actress who voiced the character of ‘Joy’, returns to lend her voice along with a stellar voice cast that includes Maya Hawke, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, and Tony Hale amongst others.
Reminiscing her memories from the first ‘Inside Out’ film, Amy recalled that she was “super-emotional”, and “proud to be in it,”. She also expressed her ambitions for more instalments in the Inside Out franchise, saying, “I just think that they should make these films like Seven Up (referring to the Up series of documentary), every couple of years in Riley’s life,”. Furthermore adding, “A young adult, and a young mother, and I think a middle-aged person – everyone’s having these very distinct new emotions that are showing up all the time.”
Inside Out 2 features an expanded team of emotions, set against the backdrop of protagonist ‘Riley’s’ mind. The film is directed by Kelsey Mann and stars a stellar cast that includes Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Ayo Edibiri, and Kaitlyn Dias in pivotal roles.
Nearly a decade ago, we first met Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness, as the adolescent Riley navigated her life. The new film will now show Riley growing up and going through more emotions as her family relocates to San Francisco. Bidding farewell to childhood, Riley now faces a new set of struggles. The audience were already introduced with Maya Hawke’s Anxiety, but the plot gets exciting as she introduces her gang of emotions, Envy, Boredom and Embarrassment, who make things worse inside Riley’s mind.
Inside Out 2 is set to release in Indian theatres on June 14.
