Bhumi Pednekar is known for her unusual choice of roles. From her debut project, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, where she plays an overweight, headstrong married woman, to her role as a journalist who uncovers the dark secrets of a shelter home in Muzaffarpur in her most recent film, Bhakshak, she has left an indelible impression on the audience. If reports are to go by, Bhumi is once again collaborating with the team of Bhakshak.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, after the critical acclaim of their 2024 Netflix crime thriller, Bhumi, Pulkit and Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, have joined forces to work on another project. While the Badhaai Do actress will headline the film, the rest of the cast is yet to be decided. The Pulkit-directed film is in its initial stages, and the makers are reportedly going to make an official announcement in some time.
Previously, during a Q&A session on her Instagram, the actress was asked, “Which actor would you like to work with in the future?” by one of her fans. Without much hesitation and thinking, she named the ‘Badshah of Bollywood’. Sharing that it has been her childhood dream to work with SRK, Bhumi said, “Yaar honestly an actor… Actor Kya superstar, childhood dream is SRK. I have come close because he has produced Bhakshak, and the cool thing is that Dunki and Bhakshak are both trending on Netflix, which is so so so cool. Big shout out to Red Chillies. But mera dream hei, Shah Rukh sir. He is just the best.” It seems that Bhumi’s childhood manifestation is coming true, as she is once again going to work on a project produced by Red Chillies Entertainment.
In other news, Bhumi addressed the idea of being stereotyped and typecasted in certain roles at the News18 SheShakti 2024 event. She said, “I want to be the queen of heartland cinema. I have worked very hard to earn that, and mujhe toh mere desh ki kahaniyan bolni hai. I want to represent every woman in that spectrum, from every walk of life and every strata of society. Honestly, being stereotyped as far as my films are concerned is a boon.”
However, the actress aspires to evolve with her every on-screen role. She further added, “I don’t want to stereotype myself as an artist. I want to constantly be evolving, and I’ve been fortunate in the last couple of years to work with filmmakers who challenge me. But I enjoy those stories with simplicity, where we touch on basic needs and problems — that’s where I feel I flourish the most as an actor.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Bhumi will be next seen in the Netflix series The Royals, co-starring Ishaan Khatter, Zeenat Aman, Chunky Panday, Sakshi Tanwar, Dino Morea, and Milind Soman.
