Popular content creator and actor Bhuvan Bam has filed a complaint concerning his deepfake video that recently went viral on social media. The video falsely represented Bhuvan urging people to invest in tennis through a certain bookie’s predictions. However, the content creator quickly took action and filed a formal complaint at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai, bringing attention to the misleading and scandalous nature of the deepfake video. The police are currently investigating the matter.
Addressing the issue, Bhuvan Bam urged his fans to be cautious and said, “I want to alert all my fans and followers about a deepfake video of me that is making rounds on social media. This video is completely fake and misguided, encouraging people to invest in tennis through predictions by a certain bookie. My team has already filed a complaint with the Oshiwara police station, and they are investigating the matter.”
“I humbly request everyone not to fall for this video. Please stay safe and avoid making any investments that might lead to trouble or financial loss. It’s crucial to be vigilant and not get trapped by these deceitful baits,” he added.
Bhuvan Bam is not the first Indian celebrity who has fallen prey to deepfake. Several actors including Radhmika Mandanna, Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif also expressed concerns after their deepfake videos went viral.
Earlier this year, a video of Ranveer Singh also surfaced online in which the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actor was seen criticising the government. In the clip, Singh was seen urging people to vote for “Nayay (justice)” in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. However, it was then clarified that the viral video was morphed and edited.
Before Ranveer, another deepfake video of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan also surfaced in which the actor was seen promoting a political party. After the video caught everyone’s attention, Mumbai police came into action and registered an FIR against an unnamed person.
Later, Aamir Khan’s spokesperson also issued a statement and clarified that the viral video was “fake”. “We want to clarify that Mr Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections,” Khan’s spokesperson said in a statement.
