The Super Bowl has transformed into more than just a football showdown and it has now evolved into an entertainment spectacle. The 2024 edition of the sporting event continued this trend, featuring not only thrilling sports but also exclusive glimpses of the upcoming blockbuster movies and TV shows from various studios. Among the highlights was a sneak peek into the enchanting world of Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp and Ariana Grande as Glinda, while Michelle Yeoh added her talent as Shiz University’s headmistress, Madame Morrible. The footage not only introduced the star studded cast but also offered a thrilling glimpse into Erivo’s rendition of the iconic Defying Gravity song. Serving as the first chapter of a two part series, the trailer provided an interesting preview of the upcoming musical, leaving fans eager for more.
Directed by Jon M Chu, the upcoming movie is adapted from the 2003 Broadway musical inspired by Gregory Maguire’s novel, explores the untold backstory of Oz’s witches. The story traces the journey of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West with green skin and Glinda, the future Good Witch of the North. It starts from their unexpected friendship during school days to their complex adulthood, who goes through political chaos and a love triangle with school heartthrob Fiyero. The upcoming film promises to bring the beloved characters to life on the big screen.

In addition to Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Michelle Yeoh, Wicked also features Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, a charismatic and carefree prince, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode making her debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s sister and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum playing the legendary Wizard of Oz. The lineup also includes Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James, along with a new character created exclusively for the film, Miss Coddle, portrayed by Keala Settle.
Last year, the production house had offered an initial preview of the upcoming movie, to an audience at the CinemaCon. The film’s production concluded in January, after numerous delays in 2023 caused by two Hollywood strikes. Despite the challenges, the much anticipated adaptation of the Broadway hit is on track to bring the magical world of Oz to the big screen, promising fans a cinematic experience.
Apart from Wicked, Super Bowl 2024 also features the trailer of Deadpool 3, Twisters and new trailer of IF.
