Los Angeles: Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who became a household name after playing lover boy Jack Dawson in 1997 epic romantic disaster film 'Titanic', says his co-star Kate Winslet convinced him to do the James Cameron directorial.
'Titanic' raked in over $2 billion including its 3-D re-release in 2012.
“'Titanic' was very much an experiment for Kate Winslet and I,” DiCaprio told deadline.com.
“We had done all of these independent movies. I loved her as an actress and she said, 'Let's do this together, we can do this.' We did it, and it became something that we could have never foreseen,” he said.
DiCaprio shared that after the success of 'Titanic', his life became about things that weren't just about acting.
“We never predicted that it would be what it was, and I said, 'Okay, slow down. Let all this pass a little bit, and let's get back to find something that…I knew it was going to be an adjustment,' he said.
“I knew there was an expectation of me to do a certain thing at that point, and I knew I had to get back to what my intentions were from the onset,” he added.
For his role in 'The Revenant', DiCaprio is currently up for Actor in a Leading Role category at the upcoming 88th Academy Awards.
