Donald Glover Compares Childish Gambino Stage Name To The Office’s Michael Scott
Donald Glover revealed that he finds his now-retired Childish Gambino stage name resembling The Office character Michael Scott.

Donald Glover has compared his musical alter-ego Childish Gambino to the character of Michael Scott from the popular American sitcom The Office. The actor-rapper has already said the final goodbyes to his stage name after the release of his fifth studio album Bando Stone & The New World on July 19. This was Donald Glover’s final act under the name of Childish Gambino. The album has also served as the soundtrack of his film bearing the same title. Before that, Donald Glover released another studio album titled Atavista under Childish Gambino. It was the re-issued “finished version” of his fourth studio album 3.15.20.

Donald Glover recently attended the latest episode of the celebrity talk show Hot Ones. During a conversation with host Sean Evans, the Grammy winner revealed that he always found Childish Gambino was akin to some character. “I always knew Childish Gambino was like a character. On some level, I wanted it to end. I feel like the Childish Gambino character is almost like the boss from The Office. It’s like yeah, that worked 10 years ago but now it’s a different thing. It’s like oh, it’s a little sad but it’s also, wow. The cycle kind of continues which is great I think,” he said. Actor-comedian Steve Carell played the role of the boss Michael Scott from The Office.

In an interview with The New York Times on July 18, Donald Glover disclosed why he bid farewell to his Childish Gambino stage name. “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done’. It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore,” he confessed. In the mid-2000s, Donald released a couple of musical and comedy projects under the name of “mc DJ”, reported People. He used the Childish Gambino moniker for the first time in 2008 while working on the mixtape, Sick Boi.

Donald Glover’s newly-released film Bando Stone & The New World centers around a prominent musician who joins forces with a mother and her son to survive a post-apocalyptic situation, reports Entertainment Weekly. Additionally, the This Is America singer announced his Childish Gambino New World Tour in April. The musical extravaganza will kickstart in Oklahoma City on August 11 and wrap up with a London show on December 1.
