The first reviews of Dune 2 are out and they are nothing praising Denis Villeneuve. The filmmaker is set to release Dune: Part 2 in March this year. Dune 2 comes a little over two years after the first film released. The sequel brings back Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, and also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux. On Thursday, Denis hosted a star-studded premiere and most critics who attended the premiere have raved about the film.
Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, critics called Dune 2 one of the best Sci-Fi films to ever be made. Uproxx’s Mike Ryan wrote, “I was kind of mixed on the first Dune. DUNE: PART TWO is phenomenal. Up there with the greatest sci-fi movies I’ve ever seen. I want to ride a sandworm. #DunePartTwo. Also Austin Butler as Feyd in this movie is demonic. He is literally channeling a demon from hell.”

Inverse editor Hoai-Tran Bui wrote, “DUNE: PART TWO is a triumph. Even more immense than the first, but much more intimate — Denis Villeneuve manages to streamline the more alienating second half of the book into a riveting, action-packed epic. TWO TOWERS-level mastery of battle sequences. Zendaya is the star.”
The Playlist’s Gregory Ellwood added, “Dune: Part Two is damn impressive. Villeneuve crafts some truly VISIONARY moments. Austin Butler gives a truly transformative performance (and not talking makeup either). Very moving ending. A wee bit long? Yes. Did I forget I saw it the next day? Yes. Still, gonna be massive.”
Collider’s Steven Weintraub praised Dune 2 for its ‘incredible filmmaking.’ He said, “In a shock to no one, I absolutely loved #Dune2. Incredible filmmaking. Brilliant score. Entire cast was excellent. My only complaint was I wish it was longer. Not joking around. The movie is 2hr and 40 min(?) and I would have been happy to watch another hour.”
Dune: Part Two, the sequel of the hit 2021 film Dune, is the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s renowned novel, which picks up where the first film ended. The film is slated to release on March 15.
The official synopsis read, “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
