Bollywood director Farah Khan revealed the real reason Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t be a part of the star-studded song, Deewangi Deewangi, in Om Shanti Om. Released in 2007, the film starred Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead. The film’s Deewangi Deewangi song featured some of the biggest stars of Bollywood. Over 30 stars were invited to dance along SRK in the video. However, fans were heartbroken to see Big B missing in the song.
In a new interview, Farah revealed that the reason Amitabh couldn’t be a part of the song was Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s wedding. In a chat with Pallavi Joshi for IFTDA, she said, “Amitabh Bachchan didn’t come for the Deewangi song shoot because Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan were getting married the same week.” Farah then joked, “Now, the industry was not called (to the wedding), so they all came for the shoot. So that’s good.”
The song also did not feature Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu. Farah explained the reason behind their absence as well. “The two people Shah Rukh Khan said he would personally go and bring to the set, which I told him, I want them, were Dilip Kumar and Saira Bano. So, every day I used to ask Shah Rukh, ‘When will Dilip Kumar come?’ and he would say, ‘I will go tomorrow and I will bring them with me’, now it’s been 12 years to that movie and I am still waiting for Shah Rukh Khan to bring them on set,” Farah said.
“A lot of actors couldn’t come, Hema ji was not in town, and we had only six days, so sweetly everyone adjusted and came when they had to shoot. A few people just gate crashed,” the filmmaker recalled.
Om Shanti Om emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of the decade. The film, inspired by Karz, was loved by all.
