Renowned film journalist Anupama Chopra, also the wife of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, seemingly confirmed that Film Companion is closing. On Saturday, the film critic took to her Instagram account and shared pictures with her team along with a farewell note. She revealed the team reunited for their last lunch together and wished them the best as they headed into new career paths. Anupama Chopra will now head The Hollywood Reporter India.
In the Instagram post, Anupama and her team smiled for the camera. She also revealed they concluded their final team lunch with some pizza and desserts. “One last blow out @filmcompanion lunch – pizza from @lilgamby, cakes from @le15india, good jokes, great people and much laughter. Missed all our folk who aren’t in Mumbai. Wishing this wonderful crew only the best!” she wrote.
Started in July 2014, Film Companion was a dedicated platform to films, reviews, and interviews. The platform covered different film industries. These include Bollywood, Tamil cinema, Telugu cinema and Malayalam cinema. The platform also carried reviews and interviews from the world of Hollywood. “Film Companion brings you engaging and informative content on movies that includes, reviews of films and web shows, interviews, film festival news, features and masterclasses,” the website’s ‘About Us’ page read.
Anupama recently confirmed that she will be spearheading The Hollywood Reporter India in India. This marks THR’s first Indian venture. She confirmed the news in a statement to Afaqs. “I’ve long admired The Hollywood Reporter for its incisive and informative journalism, the singular mix of high and low, and, of course, the sparkling roundtables. It is thrilling to be the first Editor of The Hollywood Reporter India. The Indian film industry is a mammoth, brilliant, fertile, and flamboyant space, and I look forward to capturing some of that magic on our platforms,” Anupama Chopra said.
It is reported that she takes charge of the platform starting August 16.
