She had already established herself in the industry, appearing in numerous serials and earning recognition in Gujarati theatre. Sarita started her career in theatre, participating in her first drama at a very young age.

Starting her acting journey at the age of 16 with a lead role in a Gujarati theatre drama, Sarita Joshi transitioned to the small screen in the 1980s. Her debut came with the serial Titliyan, directed by Nadira Babbar, wife of Raj Babbar.

Following Titliyan, Sarita Joshi featured in other notable serials like Junoon, Hasratein, and Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka. She appeared as Abhishek Bachchan’s mother in Mani Rathnam’s film Guru. She also played a significant role in the 2008 movie Dasvidaniya and was roped in to play a crucial role in the released film Gangoobai.

The veteran actress was recently featured in the blockbuster film 12th Fail, starring Vikrant Massey. In the movie, she portrayed the character of Vikrant’s grandmother. Alongside her television career, Sarita Joshi has made notable appearances in various films, with Kanyadan, Nazar, and Simmba standing out as some of her noteworthy works.

Sarita Joshi was initially married to Rajkumar Khatau. Later, she got married to Pravin Joshi, a celebrated theatre director and playwright.

Actress Sarita Joshi is the mother of Ketki Dave and Purbi Joshi. Aruna Irani, a Bollywood actress, is her sister’s niece. Manasi Joshi Roy, wife of Rohit Roy, is her niece, and Sharman Joshi, the actor and son of theatre veteran Arvind Joshi, is her nephew.

Billed as a biographical drama, 12th Fail is written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Adapted from the 2019 non-fiction book by Anurag Pathak, the movie narrates the real-life journey of Manoj Kumar Sharma, an Indian Police Service officer. The film stars Vikrant Massey, Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee in the leading roles.
