Mumbai: Veteran actor-producer Shashi Kapoor's son Kunal says the government's decision to honour his father with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award has made him feel "proud".
"I just got the news and I believe that he is getting an award. I am very proud and thankful to the government for recognising his work. This is the third award in our family. I am very thankful and extremely happy," Kunal, one of Shashi's three children, told IANS.
Kapoor, who turned 77 earlier this month, is the 46th winner of the prestigious award, which is given to honour outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.
Asked about his father's birthday celebrations this year, Kunal said: "My father has never believed in celebrating birthdays and having parties. So he was at home with his family."
Apart from Kunal, Shashi has another son named Karan and daughter Sanjana, whom he had with his late wife Jennifer Kendal, with whom he revived the famous Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.
Known for his work in films such as 'Deewaar', 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' and 'Kabhi Kabhie', the actor's charming smile made women swoon over him during his heydays.
