There has been a new update on Justin Timberlake’s driving while intoxicated (DWI) case. The popular pop singer was taken into custody and formally charged in New York on Tuesday, June 18. According to reports, the Cry Me a River singer was in Sag Harbor, a prominent Hamptons village and a famous celebrity-approved destination on Long Island. He was arrested on Tuesday midnight after the police pulled him over in his BMW for violating traffic norms. Besides being intoxicated, he did not adhere to the stop sign and failed to stay on the right side of the lane, as reportedly claimed in the charging document.
Justin Timberlake was taken to the Sag Harbor Village Police Department, reported Page Six. He was photographed leaving the premises without bail. Now, as per the latest update, Timberlake’s lawyer Edward Burke Jr has released an official statement to Page Six on Wednesday, June 19. “Mr Burke looks forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations. He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full discovery from the district attorney’s office,” the statement read. Burke is a notable attorney in the Hamptons who previously repped eminent personalities like Lizzie Grubman, Matt Lauer and Jason Kidd.
When the police officers stopped Justin Timberlake, the singer’s eyes were reportedly, “bloodshot and glassy”, claimed the charging document, as quoted by BBC. A “strong odour of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath,” the document added. Not only did the NSYNC alum failed to pass the sobriety tests, but his speech was also significantly slow. Timberlake even refused to comply with the breathalyzer test as per the police protocols.
Justin Timberlake was on a dinner outing with his friends on Monday, June 17 at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, reported Page Six. Cops were “stationed outside” the eatery. “I had one martini and I followed my friends home,” Justin Timberlake tried to defend himself, but to no avail. An insider claimed that the arresting officer failed to recognise the Friends With Benefits actor. Another source pointed out that the 43-year-old behaved like a “gentleman” when pulled over and did not “show any entitlement at all.”
Justin Timberlake’s next court hearing is scheduled for July 26 where he need not be present.
