Bollywood actor Salman Khan announced the official sequel of his 2015 hit Bajrangi Bhaijaan at the RRR pre-release event in Mumbai three years ago. The sequel will be written by S S Rajamouli’s father, K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, who also wrote the original film. Director Kabir Khan had helmed the project back in 2015, however, he earlier mentioned that he was not much keen on sequels. The filmmaker has once again opened up about one of the most awaited sequels.
Sharing if he has a script or storyline ready, the 83 director told Connect Cine on YouTube, “If you ask me abhi kuch hai script k level pe toh nahi. Ideas hai and there are many interesting ways of taking Bajrangi forward. (If you ask me if there’s any script ready, then no. There are ideas and have many interesting ways of taking Bajrangi forward.)”
Kabir Khan added, “It could be Adventures of Bajrangi and Chand Nawab, so many ways of taking it forward lekin as of now at a script level hamare pass kuch nahi hai. But as of now, at a script level, we don’t have anything.)”
Bajrangi Bhaijaan not only bridged gaps between people across borders but also celebrated unity among different religions in the country. Kabir Khan, before the film’s release, had shared his intention to make powerful political statements that resonated with the nation’s political situation. In an interview with Indian Express, Kabir had mentioned his strong belief in unity, secularism, and fostering friendship between people. Having grown up in an inter-religion family, with his parents in an inter-faith marriage, he embraced and celebrated both cultures.
“I wanted to discuss the Hindu-Muslim issue and in order to bring it all out in the mainstream consciousness, I needed Salman’s superstardom. He also feels strongly about secularism and instantly agreed with the film,” Khan had said.
Even after nine years, Salman Khan fans still love the film Bajrangi Bhaijaan. In fact, Salman himself admits that his father considers his act in the film as his career-best performance.
