Sobhita Dhulipala has a special connection with Kalki 2898 AD. No, she wasn’t one of star cameos that you might have missed. Instead, she lent her voice to Deepika Padukone in the Telugu version. Yes, multiple reports have said that Sobhita dubbed for Deepika’s Sumathi in the Nag Ashwin directorial. The reports were backed by the director thanking Sobhita in the opening credits.

Kalki 2898 AD marked Deepika Padukone’s first Telugu film. In the movie, she plays the role of Sum-80, aka Sumathi, who bears a miracle child. Based on the scripts of Mahabharat, Sumathi is said to carry the 10th avatar of Vishnu — Kalki — who will bring an end to the Kali Yug and kick off the new era. In the film, Kamal Haasan’s Supreme Yaskin is out to kill the child. Amitabh Bachchan’s Ashwatthama is tasked to protect the unborn child while Prabhas’ Bhairava is trying to help capture Sumathi in return for a big bounty.
The film has done a phenomenal opening weekend collections. As per Sacnilk.com, Kalki 2898 AD earned an approximate of Rs 85 Cr India on Sunday. This has resulted in the film earning Rs 302 crore in its opening weekend in India. Telugu screenings contributed the most to the total Kalki 2898 AD box office collection so far. The report also claimed that the film is likely to cross Rs 500 cr worldwide.
Kalki 2898 AD features several cameos. These include Vijay Deverakonda as Arjun, SS Rajamouli as a fellow bounty hunter, Ram Gopal Varma as a vendor in Kashi and Mrunal Thakur as a pregnant woman who is running away from the Supreme.
The film ended with a tease of part 2.
