The countdown has officially begun for the much-anticipated Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, directed by Anees Bazmee and starring Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Triptii Dimri, and Madhuri Dixit. With its Diwali 2024 release fast approaching, the makers have already launched a teaser and are gearing up to intensify their campaign throughout October with the theatrical trailer and music. But that’s not all! It’s been revealed that Bhushan Kumar has locked in a massive non-theatrical deal for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the largest in the franchise’s history.
According to sources close to the entertainment portal PinkVilla, the film’s digital, satellite, and music rights have been sold to major players for a whopping Rs 135 crore. “Netflix secured the digital rights for a significant amount following the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, while Sony Network has picked up the satellite rights. As for the music, T Series is handling that internally, with the team confident the album, featuring five hit tracks, will generate major profits,” shared a source.
The source further revealed that the pre-sale of non-theatrical rights has already covered a large portion of the film’s budget. “Anees Bazmee and Bhushan Kumar have gone all out to ensure Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is mounted on a grand scale. With a budget of Rs 150 crore, a significant part of the investment has already been recovered through back-end deals,” the source added.
The growing popularity of the horror-comedy genre, combined with the success of the previous film, has attracted substantial interest from non-theatrical partners. “This is an eagerly awaited film, and comedies, in particular, perform well on digital and satellite platforms due to their repeat value. Kartik Aaryan’s popularity with the youth is another reason digital platforms are willing to pay a premium, as the OTT space is primarily driven by young audiences,” the source concluded.
Meanwhile, the theatrical trailer for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will drop digitally on October 6, 2024. The makers plan to unveil it at a grand event in Mumbai with the full star cast in attendance.
