Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan, which celebrates the golden era of Indian football, witnessed a slowdown at the box office on its second day, managing to collect Rs 2.75 crores. The sports drama seems to be facing challenges in pulling audiences.
According to Sacnik, the early estimates show that the film managed to earn Rs 2.75 crore on Friday, a notable drop. It may be because of the clash with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Both films were released on Eid occasion. On Day 1 Maidaan managed to earn Rs 4.5 crore. Maidaan tells the tale of coach SA Rahim and his football team that won the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games. The film has opened to positive reviews. Apart from Ajay Devgn, the film also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and many other young actors.
Regarding the film, producer Boney Kapoor said, “I was amazed that not many are aware of someone as significant as Syed Abdul Rahim. He’s an unsung hero whose achievements must be saluted. His team had heroes like Chunni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Balaram, Franco, and Arun Ghosh. It takes someone like Ajay Devgn to play Syed Abdul Rahim. With him on board, I can just hope that our film inspires youngsters to play football and India soon to bring the World Cup home.” The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
Coming to Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the film stars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. The action thriller has been getting positive response. It has earned over Rs 15.5 crore net in India for all languages. News18 Showsha rated the film 3/5. Talking about Akshay and Tiger’s performances, our review stated, “Akshay and Tiger take on the roles of Captain Freddy and Captain Rocky, respectively. Their fun banters where they try to one-up each other provide a much needed respite amid all the combat scenes. Tiger gets almost all the funny one-liners and repartees (‘yeh aadmi hai ya dandruff, jaata hi nahi’, for instance) and he plays a role that’s tailor-made for him. Chote is suave, swashbuckling and a smooth charmer who revels in his comfort zone as he kicks and walks on air every now and then. Akshay is equally heroic and some of their scenes together are pure gold.”
