Amid the ongoing debate over the release of 'Udta Punjab', the makers have moved Bombay High Court. The film, which has been schedule for June 17 release, has been facing problems in getting Censor Board’s certificate. If the recent reports are anything to go by, the Revising Committee of the Censor Board has asked for as many as 89 cuts in the film and also stated that the word ‘Punjab’ should be dropped from the title.
Madhu Mentena, one of the co-producers, confirmed to CNN News18 that they approached High Court for intervention. The judge asked CBFC to issue letter/certificate to producers, and to come see him at 3 pm in the court today.
Meanwhile, CBFC issued letter to Phantom/Balaji which is dated to June 6.
While speaking to CNN News18, Pahlaj Nihalani said, “We have given a authority letter to them. The movie has been passed with certain cuts. I cannot talk about the cuts in the films. I can’t explain the cuts. There is nothing personal against Anurag Kashyap. I am doing my job whether people like the decision or not. We have done what was needed."
While reacting to this, the producers said, “Why have you been harassing us and delaying letter if it has been ready since 6th? This is how Nihalani is harassing us."
Several Bollywood celebrities also reacted to the ongoing controversy.
Actress Huma Qureshi, one being asked for her reaction, decided to stay mum. "Enough is said about the entire issue and enough number of people have spoken about the issue I do not think I should say anything," she told CNN News18.
Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra said, “I am hopeful that the whole matter should be looked into it. What we are talking about is so outdated. We will eventually get to see ‘Udta Punjab’. i hope better sense will prevail.’
