Mukesh Rishi, renowned for his portrayal of Inspector Salim in the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Sarfarosh,’ recently reflected on the film as one of the most memorable highlights of his career. He recounted an anecdote following the film’s release: while visiting his hometown in Jammu for a pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, Aamir Khan attempted to contact him. Aamir anticipated that Mukesh would receive numerous film offers after the success of ‘Sarfarosh,’ underscoring the impact of his performance.
In a candid conversation with Radio Nasha, Mukesh Rishi recalled an interaction with Aamir Khan following the release of ‘Sarfarosh.’ “I was told that I received a call from Aamir Khan’s place. When I called him back, Aamir asked ‘where are you?’ I told him ‘I am in Jammu’. He said ‘you should be here’,” Mukesh shared. At the time, Mukesh didn’t fully grasp the significance of Aamir’s advice. “Many people later told me that he said the right thing. But I didn’t have business sense back then,” he admitted.
Mukesh further revealed that Aamir had hosted a post-release party at his house, which was a missed opportunity for him. “Aamir had thrown a party at his house. These things matter. Lots of important people must have attended that and that could have led to some meetings,” he reflected, acknowledging how such industry gatherings could have opened doors to more opportunities in his career.
Despite missing the party, Mukesh Rishi harbors no regrets. “Maybe this was fate,” he mused, accepting the turn of events. Reflecting on the boost his career received from “Sarfarosh,” Mukesh noted, “The biggest advantage I got after Sarfarosh was that I started getting projects in the South.” Surprisingly, many of these roles were negative, contrasting sharply with his virtuous character in Aamir Khan’s film.
Yet, Mukesh acknowledges that his portrayal of Inspector Salim in ‘Sarfarosh’ remains the standout role in his career. “Despite playing many memorable roles, the one that still gets me a lot of respect is Sarfarosh’s Salim,” he said, highlighting the enduring impact of that performance.
Mukesh Rishi initially worked in Fiji before pursuing a career in acting. He gained widespread recognition for his robust on-screen presence and has played a variety of roles, often portraying antagonists with compelling intensity. Over the years, Mukesh Rishi has established himself as a versatile actor, contributing significantly to Indian cinema with his memorable characters and strong performances.
