Not Sudha Rani, This Actress Was The First Choice For Shiva Rajkumar's 1986 Movie Anand
Anand introduced both Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani to Kannada cinema, and it became a super hit.

Anand is a 1986 Kannada film directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. It stars Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani, both making their debuts. The film became a huge success and ran for 38 weeks. But do you know that Sudha Rani was not the original choice for the film?

It marked the debut of hat-trick hero Shiva Rajkumar in the Kannada cinema. However, news about the selection of the film’s heroine initially pointed to Aparna Vastarey, known for her role in Masanada Hoovu. This was even reported in the newspapers. Ultimately, this information turned out to be false. Do you know why?

The truth is that Parvathamma Rajkumar was against this choice. Although Chitnahalli Udayashankar had selected Aparna for Anand, Parvathamma wanted a new actress for her son’s debut film. Since Aparna had already acted in Puttanna’s Masanada Hoovu, Parvathamma opted for a fresh face.

Consequently, Sudha Rani was chosen for the role of Mala. This film introduced both Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani to Kannada cinema, and it became a super hit.

This decision has led to some questions over time. Senior Kannada film journalist Sridhar Murthy spoke about Aparna, reflecting on her career in a Total Kannada YouTube channel video. Sridhar Murthy discussed Aparna’s initial selection for Anand and how Sudha Rani ultimately replaced her.

Aparna Vastarey, prominent Kannada actor and anchor, died on July 11 this year, after a two-year battle with lung cancer at the age of 57. Her husband Nagaraj Vastarey recently paid a special tribute to her by conducting a programme called Hey Aparna Nudigathi’s Memories. Aparne’s photos were also captured in this memorial programme. A poem was written with each photo.
