Reese Witherspoon Announces Casting Process For Young Elle Woods In Legally Blonde Prequel 'Totally Open'
Directed by Robert Luketic, Legally Blonde was released in 2001, featuring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson and Selma Blair in lead roles.

The Legally Blonde prequel series at Amazon Prime Video is looking for a fresh face to play the younger version of Elle Woods, the series’ lead character. Informing about the development, Reese Witherspoon took to her official Instagram handle and dropped a video announcing that the search for the high school version of Elle Woods has officially started. Currently titled Elle, the series will show the iconic character through her teenage years, exploring the events that moulded her into the ambitious young woman that audiences are familiar with from the first movie.

The prequel was announced in May at an Amazon advertiser’s presentation by Witherspoon. Laura Kittrell, the series’ creator, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Reese Witherspoon will also produce alongside Lauren Neustadter in partnership with Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Marc Platt and Lauren Kisilevsky will also be the executive producers, while Amazon MGM Studios will produce it as a whole.

“Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially ON! With our friends @primevideo, we’re making the casting process totally OPEN, so you can submit your auditions at the link in my bio… I’m SO excited to see all your fabulous takes on everyone’s favourite Gemini vegetarian!” Reese Witherspoon mentioned.

Soon after the video surfaced online, fans chimed in to the comment section, suggesting Reese that her daughter Ava Phillippe is the perfect person for the role of Elle Woods on screen, as she completely resembles her mom. “Just give your daughter the role. She’s your younger version,” a fan stated. “I mean… I feel like it has to be your daughter,” echoed another user. A person also added, “No need to look around, Ava, Ava, Ava.”

Directed by Robert Luketic, Legally Blonde was released in 2001, featuring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson and Selma Blair in lead roles. The romantic comedy made an earth-shattering record at the worldwide box office, grossing over $140 million (approximately Rs 11,000 crore). The sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, was released in 2003, followed by a musical adaptation premiered on Broadway in 2007. Then, a straight-to-video film Legally Blondes in 2009 was released, where Witherspoon acted as a producer rather than a star.

Legally Blonde was also nominated for Golden Globes, one in the Best Picture category, the other in the Musical or Comedy category, and one in the Best Actress—Musical or Comedy category for Witherspoon.
